Hard work is often rewarded. A great example of this is Mr. David Wheeler and Jeremiah Tate. The teacher/student combination from Fall Creek Academy, worked very diligently to be picked from 108 applicants to attend a National History Day international conference, Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom. In order to get accepted they had to submit resumes, writing samples, and recommendations, all of which were reviewed and ranked by a team of expert history educators.
The reward for this great honor is a trip to the University of Maryland and overseas to France! While traveling to the University of Maryland participants will attend field trips to the nation’s capital focused on World War II. In France, the participants will walk the footsteps of the soldiers who stormed the beach, and other parts of the city. Along with the trips, Jeremiah and Mr. Wheeler will engage in weekly online sessions with the other participants discussing professional readings.
When the trips have been completed, Mr. Wheeler and Jeremiah will be able to teach other students and teachers the great knowledge they have acquired.
Mr. Wheeler was awarded the Ben Franklin Award by the GEO Foundation for his involvement in securing the trip.
